Roadmap
This is a hobby project built by one person, so there are no dates here. It’s a picture of direction, and it will change.
Working today
- Charts for US waters from NOAA, with a built-in chart manager
- Your boat’s position, with follow and course-up modes
- Warnings about dangers ahead, and tap-to-explain for chart symbols
- Routes you can plan and follow
- Runs on a Raspberry Pi with a touchscreen, starting up like an appliance when powered on
- Plain-language settings, with the technical options kept out of the way
Next
- Everything needed for a first group of testers: a field test aboard a real boat and a long soak test on the Pi
- Tracks and GPX import/export
- More ways to connect to boat instruments
Further out
- Charts for waters outside the USA, which is the biggest open question for a Mediterranean cruiser
- An Android version
- Anchor alarm, AIS, and instrument displays
- A second screen: use a tablet or phone browser as an extra display
None of this is a commitment. If something here matters to you, tell me.
